Speed Racer's supercharged Mach 5 is the leader of the pack.
Its unique aerodynamic design in the film is like the original hand-drawn Mach 5, but the new model has a slightly longer body and a slightly thinner bottom, according to Speed Racer's special effects supervisor, Dan Glass. The tyres have also been upgraded so that they automatically repair themselves when punctured!
The Mach 5 has driven outta the toon and been parked in the slick Speed Racer movie. Based on '60s race cars, the Mach 5 prob got its name 'cos 'Mach 5' is five times the speed of sound.
The Mach 5 in the film was suspended from a crane so CGI visual effects could be added to it. It has fully functional jacks
that boost the car into the air and real saws that can cut through a medium-sized tree!
Besides its drool-worthy exterior, the Mach 5 is packed with the ultimate interior features - all controlled by special buttons on the steering wheel.
