Available on: XBOX 360, Wii, PS2, PC, NINTENDO DS Rating: PG Release date: MARCH It's a world filled with Goblins, Elves and Sprites, but no ring will save you this time. Step into a world where everything is hidden and you'll have to keep a tight grip on Arthur Spiderwick's Guide To The Fantastical World Around You! After Jared discovers the Field Guide everything changes pretty quickly in the new house that he and his twin brother, Simon and older sister, Mallory have moved into. A world exists around them that they cannot see. With the help of Thimbletack the Brownie, they use the Seeing Stone to track the hidden creatures and go on a journey to locate their great, great uncle, Arthur Spiderwick, who has been captured by Elves. Their journey won't be easy. Mulgarath, an Ogre, wants to steal the book to take over the world and he'll use everything he's got to nick it. FIGHT POWER! The game sends you out on a number of quests, broken up into individual tasks. Some may be as simple as locating an object. For the most part it won't be too hard 'cos all objects are marked with a glowing eye and it's generally about memory. Other tasks will involve bashing down walls or combining things. As you jump between the characters Jared, Simon, Mallory and Thimbletack, you'll take advantage of their strengths. Being small, Thimbletack can climb walls, crawl inside hidden spaces to find things and run extremely fast, but there are disadvantages. When you're that small, insects become dangerous enemies and cockroaches cut back your Health. Luckily, you can chow down on a Faerie Fruit to restore Health at any time. Sadly, as Thimbletack you can't carry these around at all, so if you're in an area where there are none and you're attacked, you're out of luck. It can become extremely frustrating! You'll also use weapons like Mallory's saber or Jared's baseball bat to help you through fights and to clear paths that are generally blocked to you. It's a pretty easy smash and bash as you mash and mash to save yourself and your siblings. JOURNEY IN Mostly the game is scripted, but you can explore other areas once you've opened them up. Often this won't help you with the game much – in fact, you can get yourself in danger - but it prolongs the gaming experience and opens up the Spiderwick universe. As you make your way around you'll find, capture and catalogue various creatures that Arthur Spiderwick has encountered, like Dwarves, Griffons and Sprites. Some are friendly and some you'll want to run away from. But you'll need to stay and fight the freaky ones – even when there's a gang of Goblins standing their ground against you! COLLECT EVERYTHING Finding your way will involve exploration, puzzle-solving and thinking thru some twisted riddles. While this will start off simple, it's good to learn your way around before things get more difficult. With the help of the Seeing Stone you'll be able to discover more and put a stop to the invisible creatures that are out to get you. There is a lot of collecting in this game. Look for Goblin Teeth, Faerie Fruit, Ball Bearings (for the slingshot) and Gobstones, which will help in the fight and restore Health. Plus, there are Sprite powers to develop, power-ups and you can upgrade your abilities, like your strength, when hitting.
