Andy Griffiths is known for his disgusting, LOL-worthy, nonsensical reads, and his latest release 'What Body Part is That' is no exception!
He put the pen down for a moment to hang out at K-Z HQ!
KZ: Can you tell us a bit about your new book?
Andy: Well, (my previous book) 'Bumasaur' set up the template for it. You have a big illustration and about 100 words of important-sounding nonsense!
KZ: What was the inspiration behind it?
Andy: (My illustrator) Terry and I went away for a week on a working holiday, and I said, “Can you draw a close up picture of your finger?” He came back an hour later and with all this detail - an elevator going up the middle of the finger and climbing lice. It was fantastic! Then I sat down and started writing silly descriptions for body parts.
KZ: Okay... so the book's total nonsense, but you must have learnt SOMETHING while you were writing it!?
Andy: Occasionally yeah I couldn't avoid learning something. I did a lot of research on the internet, and I had encyclopaedias on the body... and I did go to an exhibition of the human body...
KZ: Okay... so now you're in the know, what's the grossest part of the human body?
Andy: Everyone has their own opinion, but (talking about) the fart gets an enormous roar of excitement, disgust. In the back of the book we have the most disgusting bits of the body.
KZ: And do you have a favourite body part?
Andy: One of my favourite descriptions in the book is of ears. Big or small, depending on their size, brown, pink, yellow or black, depending on their colour...
KZ: What tips would you give to K-Zoners who want to become writers?
Andy: Ah, there's no better way than I know than making your own books. You can give them to people as presents, or you can sell them to friends. That's really important 'cause then you get feedback, people telling you what they liked and what they didn't.
