Nature's Scuba Divers
Unlike other many other sea creatures, dolphins can't actually breathe under water. Instead, they can hold their breath for up to fifteen minutes. This is much longer than humans who can hold their breath for no longer than three minutes.
Mouth full o' teeth
Think sharks are the only underwater mammals with a fierce set of teeth? Wrong! Bottle-nose dolphins have 88 teeth, that's about twice as many as an adult human.
Mark of a Mammal
Dolphins have belly buttons! Dolphins are mammals which mean that, just like humans, they are attached to an umbilical cord when they're born.
Hairy babies
All baby dolphins have moustaches - even the girls! Thankfully, they don't have to look like an old man forever. The moustache falls out a couple weeks after being born.
Droopy Dorsal
Also when dolphins are born, the dorsal fin on their back is floppy. It straightens up after about a week.
Seafood Lovers
Okay, so it might not be the most surprising thing you've ever heard, but dolphins love to eat fish, and they'll consume it by the bucket load. In an average day, an adult dolphin will chow down on about 10kg of the stuff - that's about the same as 100 sandwiches for you or me!
These playful creatures are full of wacky facts!
