Yo K-Zoners!
It’s time to dust off your team’s jersey and find your flag coz the 2016 NRL season is about to kick off! Round One starts tomorrow, with the Parramatta Eels taking on the Brisbane Broncos at Pirtek Stadium. What a match to start the season with! I think the Broncos will nab the win. What about you?
Other Round One games happening this weekend are:
Friday 4/3: Manly Sea Eagles v Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs @ Brookvale Oval
Go Manly! They’re my team so I have to back them, plus I think the Bulldogs will be hurting with fullback Brett Morris out for the next four months with a knee injury.
Sat 5/3: Canberra Raiders v Penrith Panthers @ GIO Stadium
The Raiders are set for a dynamite performance this weekend and are counting on starting hooker, Josh Hodgson, to work some magic on the field.
Sat 5/3: Wests Tigers v New Zealand Warriors @ Campbelltown Stadium
It’ll be a close one! The Tigers have been training hard for this match and have a talented new back-rower, Josh Aloiai, who is out to make his mark. The Warriors haven’t won a Round One match since 2009, so I don’t like their chances…
Sat 5/3: North Queensland Cowboys v Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks @ 1300SMILES Stadium
Cowboys five-eighth, Michael Morgan, let us in on their game plan for this season – grab the April issue of K-Zone (on sale March 14!) to get the deets. The reigning premiers have this in the bag.
Sunday 6/3: Sydney Roosters v South Sydney Rabbitohs @ Allianz Stadium
Both coaches say their squads are excited and prepared for the season. The Roosters have been working hard since November, and apparently the Rabbitohs are ‘hungry’ for some wins. It’ll be a close one.
Sunday 6/3: Gold Coast Titans v Newcastle Knights @ Cbus Super Stadium
The Knights have a fresh lineup with seven new faces, while the Titans are missing two key players due to injury and suspension. Knights might just take it.
Monday 7/3: Melbourne Storm v St. George Illawarra Dragons @ AAMI Park
Storm weren’t at their best in the trials, but their coach reckons they’ll be in top form by Monday. They have the home ground advantage too. The Dragons have their work cut out for them!
Let me know what team you go for in the comments! Maybe I’ll see you at game this year. Look for me on the hill at Brookie Oval cheering on the mighty Sea Eagles!
K-Zone ya later!
Lou :)
