Ryan 'The Brickman' McNaught is bringing his Brickman Awesome LEGO exhibition around Australia! The exhibition has the tallest LEGO model in the Southern Hemisphere, the only life-sized LEGO Harley Davidson ever made, opportunities for visitors to take part in a new world record, and much more!

Ryan gave a special shout out to K-Zoners – check it out below!

We caught up with the LEGO legend before the show opened at the ICC Sydney to chat bricks, bricks and more bricks!

KZ: There are a lot of animal models in the exhibition, like kangaroos, koala and an orca whale. How do you research creating a LEGO version of a living creature?

R: We do a fair bit of research – I grew up in the country so the kangaroos, koalas, platypus and animals like those, I’ve seen them all in real life. We basically do work off photos or a series of photos, just to get the characteristics of each animal right.

KZ: The SLS rocket has an inbuilt lighting system to give the effect that the rocket is blasting off into space, which is so cool! What can K-Zoners do with their LEGO builds to start to take it to the next level?

R: Add some movement! Add moving parts, like wheels, and that will help expand your ideas.

KZ: What was the number one snack consumed while working on the LEGO models?

R: I’m a muesli bar guy, so that would be it!

KZ: If you could go back in time and build that many exhibitions with anything else, what would you choose?

R: Matchsticks! It would be just as painful to work with, probably!

LEGO fans will have lots of opportunities to show off their building skills at Brickman Awesome! Visitors can help the Brickman team expand their LEGO colony of Emperor Penguins, build their very own time machines and even put them on display next to Ryan’s LEGO models of Doctor Who’s TARDIS and the DeLorean from Back to the Future!
