Behind the Scenes at KOOZA by Cirque du Soleil

by Aideen | Oct 18, 2016

Hi K-Zoners! You know the drill – I hear about awesome stuff, and I hunt it down for you to read about here on the blog!

Well, when I heard KOOZA by Cirque du Soleil was headed to Australia, I knew I had to sneak behind the scenes to get all the deets – because trust me, there is nothing more awesome than this show! Don’t believe me? Check out all the crazy performances that are part of KOOZA!

Wheel of Death KOOZA

The Wheel of Death is a pair of wheels spinning at speed through the air, and two performers flip and jump around inside or ON TOP OF those wheels! For real! They move so fast they’re practically a blur!

I got to watch the performers practising their stunts on the Wheel while tiptoeing around backstage, and I filmed some sneaky video for you! This is only a tiny bit of what they can do in the Wheel, but I don't want to spoil too many of the show's amazing secrets!

I also caught up with Jimmy Ibarra, one of the Wheel of Death performers, and he shared a tip for any K-Zoners who want to work on the Wheel one day:

"The mental comes before the physical. If you can control your nerves, you can be a great performer, because in the moment controlling your nerves matters just as much as spending time training beforehand."

Jimmy also told me all about what it’s like to defy danger – if you want to read more of my interview with Jimmy, make sure you grab the November issue of K-Zone!

Amazing performers also do tricks on the high wire – would you believe me if I told you they ride a bike on the wire? It’s all true!

If you head to KOOZA, you’ll also see some crazy unicycle stunts on stage – these two totally defy physics!

Plus, the contortionists don’t even make sense! It’s totally incred what they can do! Don’t try this at home!

Now do you understand what I mean when I say KOOZA is seriously awesome? These are only a few of the performances you can see at KOOZA! I had such a great time hanging out backstage, and I even got to see the premiere of the show in Sydney! It was the coolest show ever and now, I want to learn how to do cool tricks too!
