As we reported last week, lots of NBA players are renegotiating their basketball contracts at the moment.
Superstar LeBron James has opted to become a 'free agent' (e.g. shopping around for a new team contract) as have his Miami Heat teammates Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh.
Another player who was looking for a new NBA deal? Australian star basketballer Patty Mills!
Mills is a superstar supporting player for the San Antonio Spurs who beat the Miami Heat in the finals last year. Mills was looking like an easy choice to eventually replace Tony Parker at the Point Guard position. Unfortunately, just before the big contract negotiations began, he hurt his shoulder pretty badly, and discovered he'd need surgery AND months of recovery.
What team wants a player who can't play?
K-Zone's basketball expert Glen (our awesome Art Director) was pretty worried that Mills would have to go to a team that wasn't as good, and then try to work his way up to the a-grade teams again once he was back in top form.
However, in a seriously awesome surprise, Patty Mills scored a solid deal with the Spurs despite his injury trouble!
Glen says, "Just like the legends that they are, the Spurs picked him up today on a 3-year $12 million deal."
We're excited!
