As a major Spidey fan, I was obviously pretty excited to meet with Jacob Batalon yesterday to chat about Spider-Man: Far From Home! Now, if you somehow haven’t seen one of the best movies ever, be warned: there may be some spoilers ahead!
Jacob plays Peter Parker’s best friend Ned Leeds in Spider-Man: Homecoming, Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame and Spider-Man: Far From Home. Ned is the Guy In The Chair – AKA the most important person in any superhero team. Ned is one of my favourite characters in the MCU, and I was really happy to learn that Jacob is just as funny as his character – and also really loves Star Wars!
Who can forget the moment in Spider-Man: Homecoming where Ned discovers that Peter is Spider-Man, and drops the LEGO Death Star. That’s 4000 LEGO Bricks all over the ground – and apparently, the movie production team had seven versions of the LEGO Death Star to smash!
If you want to read my full interview with Jacob, check it out here! We talked about behind the scenes secrets, bloopers, Mario Kart, E.D.I.T.H., koalas, acting advice and more.
However, I did keep two answers just for the K-Zone Blog, so check them out below. But shhh, it’s a secret!
KZ: What is the funniest thing that happened on set?
J: There was one time that Zendaya was showing us this video that goes like, ‘Peel the avocado, peel the avocado’. It’s a really weird song and we were in a soundstage while filming the scene in the Tower Bridge Museum. All the explosions were happening and it had to be very quiet. We were in a little tent on the soundstage, they called ‘Rolling!’, they told us to be quiet, and all of a sudden Zendaya’s phone is very loudly blaring, ‘Peel the avocado’. You could hear it all throughout the stage and it ruined that take.
[By the way K-Zoners, I did some research and it turns out this song is called ‘The Guacamole Song’ – I’m laughing so much imagining this weird video ruining a take on the set of Spider-Man: Far From Home!]

KZ: There are a lot of great scary scenes in Far From Home, like when you are trapped at the top of the Ferris wheel, the first huge illusion scene with Mysterio and Peter in Berlin, and the Crown Jewels vault escape. Are you afraid of anything, or do you have any phobias?
J: I’m afraid of the dark, and spirits, and that’s really just from my upbringing. I’m terrified of the dark – the idea of something lurking in the shadows terrifies me. Ghosts, you don’t even need to explain that, they’re scary. I just heard of this new phobia where you’re afraid that a dolphin or a penguin is somewhere watching you?
KZ: Ducks! Anatidaephobia! It’s the fear that somewhere, a duck is watching you!
J: It’s pretty specific! Why would someone think a duck is always watching them?
Spider-Man: Far From Home is available on Digital now and on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray and DVD on October 23!
