Swimming is all about technique and breathing. To win the gold for the 50m Free at your next school Swimming Carnival, be sure to exhale under water. There isn’t enough time to exhale and inhale above the water.
In tennis, if the ball has been hit to you and it’s a distance away, you need to use the gravity step. Your right foot draws closer to your left foot and you thrust off of your left foot giving you extra speed to get to the ball.
Soccer: keep the defending team off the ball! With your standing foot behind the ball go to kick with the outside of the boot, but instead lift it over and across the ball and then kick it in the opposite direction with your other foot. Sneaky!
Rugby: trick the opponent into thinking you’re going one way, and then go the other! Step wide with your outside leg. This will give you that extra bit of spring to help speed you up when you change direction and go the other way.
Cricket: how to spin bowl! On release of the ball, roll your fingers over the front of the ball rather than the side. This topspin makes the ball dip in front of the batsmen, causing them to be on the front foot instead of the back!
Basketball: the switch-eroo! Dribble the ball with your right hand. When the ball is about to reach your hand, angle your hand so you will touch the side of the ball. Bounce it through the middle of your legs and catch it with your left hand.
How to polish those AFL skills: if you want to get paid to play AFL one day, remember to keep your eye on the ball and keep your nose to your toes when kicking. This will make sure that you’re hitting the ball cleanly and getting max distance
