Socceroos Vs Spain: Match Report

Socceroos Vs Spain: Match Report

How did Australia fare in our third World Cup match?

The score looks a bit one-sided, but the Socceroos got mighty close to matching it with the defending World Champs!
It was always going to be a tough game for the Aussies, with Tim Cahill and Mark Bresciano both off the field and young gun Tommy Oar copping an injury an hour into the match.

The young Socceroos gave 100% though – and our red and yellow opponents (who played in black and yellow this time) really tested the team's fitness!
Up-and-comer Mathew Leckie had another good game and coach Ange Postecoglou said that once the young striker adds some goals to his international record he’ll be a real star for the Socceroos.

Aussie Keeper Matty Ryan played his best game yet and even though Spain’s David Villa, Fernando Torres and Juan Mata scored against him he showed plenty of class and made some stellar stops!

Even though the Aussies are out of the World Cup now, we definitely challenged the top tier teams in our tough draw, and we'll be readier than ever for 2018 - when the World Cup will be held in Russia.

Watch out World Cup!
