Wanna be a soccer pro? We know we do! That’s why we asked Archie Thompson, A-League’s leading goal scorer, to share his mad soccer skills.
Here are some awesome ways to practise controlling the ball, dribbling, tackling and shooting. Spend some time doing these and you’ll be a pro in no time!
Controlling the ball
“Practise up against the wall in the backyard. It’s all about being repetitive, controlling the ball different ways, and working on your touch. We still do this as professional footballers when we warm up.”
Dribbling
“Set up cones, objects, boots, even the dog or cat, and try to dribble around the house.”
Tackling
“Try to stay on your feet and not jump in. Don’t hurt the player but try to win the ball.”
Shooting
“I always do extra training, just 10-15 minutes after training [with the team], just shooting by myself. I work on my touch then shooting, and finally composure in front of goal.”
