We placed a phone call to the Aronnax, the incred submarine where Ant Nekton, star of The Deep, lives. He’s a busy dude, but here’s what we spoke about before he had to go back out exploring!

K-Z: Hey Ant! What’s it like living on a submarine?

A: I dunno. I’ve never lived anywhere else. Does your house dive a thousand metres and sail along through schools of sharks and pods of whales? If not, then living on a submarine is awesome!

K-Z: Nope, our houses don’t do that! So obviously you have some pretty epic adventures. Which one’s been the most memorable?

A: Wow. That’s a hard one. I mean, I’ve seen some pretty weird things down here. We’ve come up against pirates, we’ve discovered lost treasure, and all sorts of giant creatures. Maybe the time we came up against the dragon? Being almost eaten by a dragon is pretty memorable.

K-Z: Favourite sea creature you’ve come across?

A: We’ve seen incredible things, things that would blow your mind, but my absolute favourite sea creature is my fish, Jeffrey.

K-Z: What sea creatures are you family members like?

A: I guess my parents are both like octopuses, not because they have eight arms, just because they’re both really smart and can generally get us out of anything. Hmm. Now I’m thinking of my parents with eight arms. Eight-armed parents would be cool. My sister, Fontaine, is like a sea slug. Oh no... She heard me!

K-Z: Haha! Can you tell us about your sweet mech suits?

A: We have the Swamp Knight, which is amphibious and really strong, and the White Knight, which kind of does everything and has a laser. But my favourite mech suit is the Shadow Knight! It’s the fastest and it has a camouflage mode, which means I can sneak up on pirates, or run away when an artificial intelligence takes over our submarine. This sounds like a thing that shouldn’t actually happens, but it does!

K-Z: We’re so jealous! OK, one last question before we let you go. Will we see some underwater pranking when we tune into your show?

A: Will you ever! I don’t want to spoil them for you but the pirates will have no idea what hit them. I’m great at out-pirating pirates. Jeffrey comes up with all the plans. I think. He can’t actually talk but I figure he’s scheming... or hungry... or both!
