The powerful pair are actually twins, were born in the war-torn Eastern European country of Sokovia and orphaned after a bomb blast when they were 10 years old. They volunteered to undergo experiments held by Baron von Strucker’s HYDRA group, and gained superpowers as a result.

Scarlet Witch, also known as Wanda Maximoff, attained various telekinetic and energy manipulating abilities through the experiments. Her powers can sometimes be seen as a red glow around her body, as energy currents control forms of matter on a molecular level. She is also able to hypnotise others and harness energy blasts.

Quicksilver, also known as Pietro Maximoff, became able to move at supersonic speeds and react with superhuman reflexes after being subjected to experiments. Quicksilver often has a quick temper and is very protective of Wanda, who is the only family he has left.
