KANGAROO is about an ex-TV personality, Chris Masterman (played by Ryan), who becomes stranded in an outback town outside Alice Springs. He teams up with 12-year-old Charlie (played by Lily) to rescue and rehabilitate orphaned joeys.
KZ: Hi Lily! Did you learn anything new or unexpected while working on Kangaroo, as your first role in a film?
L: Well, I actually didn’t know they took that many shots in one scene. Yeah, that’s probably what I learned!
KZ: Hi Ryan! Did you get to spend time learning about caring for kangaroos before filming began?
R: Yes! And it was one of the best parts of the whole experience. We spent loads of time with baby kangaroos, especially ones who had lost their mums and needed extra care. They’re super cute, but they’re also wild animals—so it took time and patience to build trust with them. Getting to feed them and look after them every day was a dream come true, and I’ll never forget it.
KZ: Which cast member is most likely to reveal they have befriended an unusual creature?
L: I would probably say Ernie Dingo or Chris ‘Brolga’ Barnes.
KZ: Which cast member is most likely to sing a lot?
L: Ryan, because he would be singing Taylor Swift songs with me on set.
KZ: Which cast member is most likely to suddenly start dancing?
L: Ryan!
KANGAROO is in cinemas from September 18, 2025!
