1. Numbers in action
The percentages in Smash Bros. can sometimes be a mystery. In the latest version of Smahs Bros. the higher your percent, the harder you’ll hit BUT as usual you’ll also fly further when you get smashed!
2. Unlock EVERYONE!
Sure, this kinda doesn't count as a pro-tip but if you want to BE a pro, you need to experience every character’s play-style and decide which one is best for you. Unlock them all, learn their strengths and weaknesses and you’ll be playing like a pro in no time.
3. Items
Some hardcore Smash players refuse to play with items and competitive matches are often played item-free. That’s fine for epic skill match-ups but if you want some awesome random fun, we reckon you should grab any item you can.
4. Stage smarts
The environment in Smash Bros. is not just for show, plenty of the stages have moving or even dangerous parts so keep your eyes peeled or you might end up smashed by the scenery!
5. Short hopping
Tap the jump button quickly to do a smaller, faster jump. It’s only a small movement but it means you can bust out your air moves close to the ground, bringing major pain to your foes.
6. Living on the Edge
In previous versions of Smash Bros. you could hog the edge and stop a character recovering and getting back up. This time you’ll just constantly swap with each other if you try to edge-hog so it’s a risky (and kinda boring) strategy.
7. Customise characters
If you play a particular way, or love one character especially, you can customize to your heart’s content. Just remember that for every stat you boost, you’ll have to sacrifice a stat somewhere else.
8. Fast falling
Jump, then hit down when you reach your max height. You’ll descend extra quick making you a much harder target to hit.
9. Proper shielding
When you time your shield perfectly (so it’s up right before an attack hits) you’ll hear a blocking sound. Go on the attack immediately and surprise your opponent.
10. Air control
Save your life by immediately steering back towards the stage when you get smashed. You’ll need quick reflexes and to keep an eye on your damage meter so you’re ready when it happens.
