CAILLEACH
This Celtic goddess controlled the winds and winter, even determining the length of this super cold season and its harshness! She was also known for fighting spring and using her staff to freeze the ground… As you do.
SET AND HORUS
Set was an Egyptian god all about storms and chaos, with strange events like earthquakes linked to him. On the flipside, Horus was the god of the sky, the sun and good storms – and he was the protector of the Egyptian people. So yep, there was definitely a massive power struggle between these two!
ZEUS AND JUPITER
In Greek mythology, Zeus was the god of the sky and weather. It was thought that he was the sender of thunder, lightning, rain and winds. His weapon? A lightning bolt. The Romans had a very similar god – Jupiter! Sound familiar? Yep, the planet was named after him!
RAIJIN AND FUJIN
These two Japanese gods were known for being troublemakers! Raijin was god of lightning, thunder and storms, and was known for flying around on dark clouds and throwing lightning bolts at people. Ouch! And his brother Fujin? He reigned over the winds and was always visible in typhoons.
TLALOC
Tlaloc was an Aztec god who was the ruler of rain, bringing life to crops below. His followers called him “the provider” but he was also very feared. Why? Well, if he was in a bad mood, he’d send hail, thunder and lightning down to Earth. Yikes!
