There are two reasons I wanted to write this blog post about Steve Roger’s greatest feats as Captain America in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). First of all, there’s roughly a month until Captain America: Civil War bursts onto movie screens, and I am really excited.
Second, March is actually the 75th anniversary for Captain America! Our fave shield-wielding hero first appeared in Captain America Comics #1 back in March 1941, and has been saving the world ever since! So, I went back through all the movies that include Captain America and chose my top five favourite heroic moments to remind us all how incred Steve Rogers really is!
1. The First Sacrifice
Cast your minds back to Captain America: The First Avenger – before Steve Rogers was injected with a special serum and dosed with vita-rays. Remember the smaller, weaker Steve who was always being rejected from military recruitment? After finally making it into an experimental program, Steve proves he’s a hero when the Colonel drops a grenade. While everyone else runs away, Steve springs into action and covers the deadly weapon with his body to absorb the blast. Little did he know, the grenade was a fake – but in the moment, he had chosen to sacrifice himself to save everyone else.

2. Frozen Fate
Now, Captain America: The First Avenger is full of Steve’s heroism, but I think his sacrifice towards the end is one of the greatest heroic acts of all time. After Steve defeats Red Skull in the villains huge plane, he realises the vehicle is on an explosive collision course with the U.S.A. When Steve sees he can’t stop the plane, he sacrifices himself to plunge the aircraft into the freezing depths of the ocean, leaving behind his friends, family, and entire life.
3. “Hey! That’s enough!”
In The Avengers, I always found Steve stepping in while Thor and Iron Man fought over the capture of Loki, to be an incredibly brave act. When he throws his shield to ricochet off Thor’s hammer, Mjolnir, and Tony’s Iron Man suit, Steve intervenes in a battle between a god and a man equipped with the most advanced technology on the planet. He has never interacted with them in a battle scenario before to know if he stands a chance, but to Steve, all that matters is justice and the safety of the citizens of Earth.
4. Best Friends Forever
Captain America: The Winter Soldier is one of my absolute favourite Marvel movies. When Cap helped stop Hydra’s plans to kill anyone who might ever challenge their evil reign, it was obviously incredible heroic. But Cap’s dedication to saving his childhood best friend Bucky, who was still brainwashed by Hydra, has always felt extra heroic to me. Steve refused to escape the weaponised ship plummeting from the sky without trying to break through to the Bucky he once knew. Even though the ship crashed to the ground, Steve’s commitment to saving Bucky eventually showed a glimmer of hope in The Winter Soldier.
5. Nobody Left Behind
Similarly, when Ultron lifted the nation of Sokovia lifted into the sky in Avengers: Age of Ultron, there was only a small window of time to escape before the country hurtled back towards Earth, causing human extinction. But Cap explained that he (and the rest of the Avengers) would not be leaving until every citizen had been evacuated, proving that he and his friends, were truly Earth’s Mightiest Heroes.
So, K-Zoner’s, what’s your favourite heroic Captain America moment? I’d love to hear it so let me know in the comments below!
