For the last 10 years, the spacecraft Rosetta has been floating through the cosmos, whizzing past Earth three times and travelling more than six BILLION kilometres. Whoa!
On August 6, the Rosetta will finish its trip by following a comet with the catchy name ‘67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko’ (try saying that three times fast) in an orbit around the Sun. This will be a first in the history of space travel!
Later, in November, a robot called Philae will leave the main ship and land on 67P/C-G, sending information about the comet to the European Space Agency.
FUN FACT: The comet has also been called the ‘rubber duckie’ comet because of its shape in some pictures.
