World Cup Update - Socceroos: Game Two
The Netherlands were the next World Cup hurdle our Aussie players had to face, and boy did they stand up to the challenge!
The gold and green Socceroos held their own throughout the opening minutes with Mathew Leckie once again starring with his running and possession abilities.
The Netherlands held off an early attempt and scored, taking a 1-0 lead. Before, BAM, only a second later, Tim Cahill struck the ball so sweetly it zoomed past the goalie into the back of the net making the scores even and the Aussie fans very happy!
Unfortunately the first half ended with another yellow card to Cahill, meaning he’s out of the last match.
The second half saw Oliver Bozanic make his World Cup debut and within five minutes of running onto the pitch, drew a penalty from a Netherlands defender, giving Australian captain, Mile Jedinak a shot from right in front… it was Aussies 2-1!
It didn’t last long though, as the Netherlands rose to the occasion and came back to kick another two goals and win the match 3-2!
Although the orange dudes walked away with the points, the Aussies gave 100% and we’re stoked to see what’s next!
