We caught up with Maxi, a lifeguard on Bondi Beach and star of Bondi Rescue!
KZ: If you’re not at the beach, what do you do in your spare time?
M: I exercise – running and cycling – and get outdoors on my days off. If the weather is bad or I’m a bit burnt out, I watch a movie to chill and recharge the batteries, or play FIFA on the PlayStation 4.
KZ: Since your job means being at the beach, do you still go there in your spare time?
M: All the time. I’ll be at home when it’s hot and I’ll want to go out to the beach to cool down and hang out. I always seem to be at the beach.
KZ: What is the coolest thing that has happened to you recently on Bondi Beach?
M: I met a few of the people from the Women’s Big Bash League the other day, from Hobart!
KZ: What kind of movies are you into?
M: I don’t know, I’m a bit of a weirdo – I like documentaries, especially ones about space! If I was a scientist, I’d want to study space.
KZ: What’s the most mind-blowing fact about space you’ve learned recently?
M: They’re planning on putting people on Mars, that’s pretty cool.
KZ: Would you want to live on Mars?
M: No, I wouldn’t! I don’t think I could handle the long trip to get there.
KZ: Have you ever had a prank played on you by another lifeguard?
M: I’ve had a few pranks pulled on me over the years. One of the lifeguards got a friend of his, who I didn’t know at the time was a three-time heavy weight boxer, to pretend to want to fight me when I had to move him out of the red and yellow flags. That was pretty fun!
