Exploring the mysterious setting of Spirit of the North 2 is tranquil at first as you run and leap through its crumbling old castles, bridges and buildings. You’re not roaming alone, either, with a raven friend that gently guides you to levers and magical mechanisms. Sadly, the serenity doesn’t last as your colourful canine (yes, foxes are part of the same family as dogs, wolves and coyotes) unwittingly brings an evil shaman named Grimnir back to life, who then wakes the belligerent Bear Guardian. It’s a catastrofoxy! (Sorry.) After narrowly escaping the claws of the colossal creature you find yourself on a quest to save the other lost Guardians and return the land to peace. The world is vast, and you’ll collect wisps to unlock dungeons, equip runes to gain new abilities and grow your skill tree. Spirit of the North 2 has charm, but it’s a bit rough around the edges and could do with more compelling puzzles and peppier platforming.
GAME NINJA PRO TIP!
Be sure to run over to any pots you see in the world and break them. You’ll often be rewarded with crystals, which are used to activate obelisks (revealing part of the map). Fox dens can store excess crystals and the skill tree can increase the number you can carry!
