Playing Now: Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2

Fast-paced fighting, colourful combatants, and the superb slime system help put this supercharged sequel light years ahead of the original. Is this pugilistic party game perfection? Available On: PC, PS4, PS5, SWITCH, XBOX ONE, XBOX SERIES S/X

Imagine Super Smash Bros., but instead of battling with a bevy of big Nintendo names, you were fighting with figures from Avatar: The Last Airbender, SpongeBob SquarePants, TMNT and more! This mega mash-up is the game that lets you answer the eternal question (not really) of who would win in a showdown between Garfield and Jimmy Neutron?! Each character has a motza of moves straight from their shows. SpongeBob blows bubbles, launches upwards with his hydrodynamic spatula and sends enemies flying with an imagination rainbow. Aang rides a ball of air, soars with his glider and shows off his mastery of all four elements. And Garfield, umm, has a lasagna meter and powers up once it’s full! (It’s actually pretty funny, LOL.) Four player fight fests are definitely the way to play All-Star Brawl 2, but there are solid selections for solo scrappers too, like the Campaign, which has randomised levels, upgrades and boss fights.

PRO TIP!

Mastering the new slime meter is crucial. It builds as you land hits and take damage and can be used to augment all sorts of moves, letting you amp up charge moves and specials, cancel out of light attacks or recover from hits. When full you can also unleash your Ultimate attack!
