The Smithy Gang have smashed through Star Road sending Star Pieces everywhere, and now they’re terrorising the land! With baddies shaped like spears, arrows and swords this arsenal of enemies won’t be easy to beat! In fact, Mario will need tactics and timing to take them out. In Super Mario RPG, battles are turn-based and you can choose between an array of options, from basic attacks through to special moves and items. Thankfully, Mario isn’t fighting alone. The portly plumber partners up with a quirky cast of characters on his adventure, and this means you can work as a team to whip those weapons! Combat can be a little frustrating if you’re not stocked up on items, but with some preparation blitzing this game’s bizarre bestiary will be a breeze! The best thing about Super Mario RPG is that it doesn’t take itself seriously. Bowser can even toss Mario at enemies in combat!

PRO TIP!

Action commands are your not-so-secret weapon in combat! These help amp up your attacks as well as block incoming damage. Usually it’s as simple as pressing A as your character is attacking or just before being hit. Watch out for the exclamation point to train up on the timing!
