Back in the days of the Super Nintendo, the Bomberman games were some of the most manic multiplayer experiences around. Youβd run around a grid, placing bombs to clear a path to the other players and revealing power-ups as you go. The goal was to corner your opponents and blow them up, and it was a tonne of fun. That basic recipe hasnβt changed in this new Bomberman, but there are lots more options. Starting out with classic four and eight player battles you can now boost the bombasticness all the way up to a 64 person battle royale! There are even loads of unlockable characters in multiplayer with sweet special abilities. Team games are worth a try too, like the new Castle mode where one side attacks and the other defends. Hectic is the word! Bomberman R 2 also has a story mode, but itβs a bit slow next to multiplayer with mates. Plus, the characters and cutscenes are pure cringe.
PRO TIP!
Power-ups are the key to kicking butt in Bomberman, letting you lay more bombs, boost your blast radius and max out movement. Be sure to use the special moves too. The boxing glove can punch bombs over obstacles, clearing the way if you get trapped or ambushing an opponent!
