CONTRABULOUS FABTRAPTIONS
What’s the best way to get around in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom? In your own contraptions of course! Link’s latest lets you build boats, cars, planes and more then power them up to haul the Hero of Time around Hyrule. The creativity doesn’t stop there. You can also fuse wicked weapon combos and augment your arrows to beat Bokos.
BLOCK ROCKIN’ BUILDS
Minecraft is all about creativity. It even has a whole mode called ‘Creative’ where you have unlimited access to all the blocks and tools in the game. In this mode, the sky’s the limit. Well, 320 blocks into the sky at least. What will you build? Master Minecrafters have built some beauties, from entire cities through to a huge Hogwarts Castle!
WRITE ON
Imagine having a magical notebook that turns anything you write into reality! That’s how Scribblenauts Unlimited works, making even the most perplexing puzzles no match for your potent powers! You can summon anything from a giant flying pig to a destructive black hole, and you can even create your own objects to write into the game and decide how they’ll work!
PLATFORMING PLAYGROUND
Creating a toad-ally awesome level in Super Mario Maker 2 is harder than it looks but sure is fun! With about a zillion enemies and items to choose from, you can completely fill the screen with tricks and traps, or you can work towards a theme. How about a Zelda level complete with Master Sword power-up that turns Mario into Link?!
PIXEL PICKAXES
In Terraria’s 2D take on mining, crafting and surviving, you can’t just build whatever you want. Even in Journey mode you need to discover items before you can duplicate them, so it can take a bit to build out a brilliant base. Exploring is totes tops though and you can set sweet settings like Godmode, enemy spawn rate, time of day and weather.
FROM DREAM TO DESIGN
This game is for older K-Zoners! For budding game designers, Dreams on PS4 and PS5 is a powerful package. You can learn 3D modelling, animation, how game logic works and even make music! The tools are a teensy bit terrifying, but there are a tonne of tutorials to help get you up and running. Plus, you can search the ‘Dreamiverse’ to find bits and bobs to build upon.
