Rock climbing may not sound like the most exciting subject for a game, but Jusant makes the quest to climb its titanic tower the mother of all movement puzzles. With a rope and a handful of “piton” - spikes you can drive into the rock as an anchor and checkpoint, you’re free to decide how you want to tackle every area. Each trigger on your controller is assigned to a hand, so you have to reach out and grip to climb, moving hand over hand. Miss a handhold and you’ll fall, but only as far as the last piton. Jusant’s gameplay is challenging but also fun. You can do things like abseil down a wall then build up momentum by running along it before leaping to a new point. We’ve only played a small piece of this puzzle, but we’re already desperate to know what this world is about. Where is everyone? What happened to the ocean? What will we find if we reach the top?
DID YOU KNOW?
Jusant is made by the French developer Don’t Nod, and the title is the French word for a falling tide. It’s the perfect title for this world, where all that remains of a great ocean is a dusty desert littered with the bones of boats.
