KZ: When did you first fall in love with Crash Team Racing?
TW: I started in the game industry 20 years ago and my favourite game was Crash Team Racing!
KZ: Wow. Now you get to make a Crash reboot!
TW: You can’t imagine the nostalgia kicking in as I’m booting up my PS1 in my office and playing Crash Team Racing again.
KZ: How much of the orig PS1 game did you play as ‘research’?
TW: It’s more having fun playing the game that you love so much than actual research.
KZ: And how much time was that?
TW: A great deal of time. We worked closely with the designers to recreate the controls as they were in the original game.
KZ: How tricky is it to nail kart controls?
TW: That’s the number one challenge for a remaster like Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled. It was definitely the trickiest part.
KZ: Who’s your fave racer?
TW: Nitrous Oxide because he’s fully playable, which wasn’t the case in the original Crash Team Racing, and because it’s good to be bad. Racing as a villain is fun.
KZ: How do you make boss fights in a racing game?
TW: A boss fight is pretty much a little unfair race. The boss is pretty smart, but at the same time he’s kind of a cheat.
