KZ: Hi Agnes and Ulraf! It’s a big year for Minecraft. What does a Minecraft headquarters party look like?
A: We do have quite good parties. When we released the Buzzy Bees update, we had a huge cake that looked like the Minecraft bee.
KZ: Are Creepers allowed to attend?
U: We do actually have some Creepers in the office.
A: We have one Creeper, but it has never exploded.
KZ: Noted! What's the best thing about your jobs?
A: Minecraft had been my favourite game for many years before I joined Mojang. It was always my dream to work on it.
U: I really love the silly questions internally. We spent an hour talking about: ‘If you hit a fish underwater with a fire-enchanted sword, should it drop a cooked fish?’ It’s on fire, but it’s underwater.
KZ: Is there a ‘Minecraft logic’ for settling debates?
A: Yes and no. If the world makes sense, it’s easier for the players to feel immersed. But then Minecraft is also a bit ridiculous, which is really cute.
KZ: What is your favourite thing about The Wild Update?
U: I really like the idea of an adventure of finding frogs, and then taking them with you in a bucket and finding all the different biomes.
A: The boat with chest is so useful. When I need to travel back and forth to get some stone, I can bring double the amount back.

KZ: How long are these big updates in the works for?
U: It varies between updates. For example, Caves & Cliffs was in the works for a very long time. It’s usually at least a few years.
A: And there’s a lot going into The Wild Update!
KZ: For sure! Were fireflies initially planned for this update?
A: Yes, originally the fireflies were planned to be frog food. Then we learnt many fireflies are poisonous for frogs.
U: Mojang made a similar decision with parrots a few years back. Parrots initially ate cookies, and they were changed to eating seeds instead. We have a real responsibility for this sort of thing.
KZ: Did any funny things go wrong while developing The Wild Update?
A: We were testing how the animations work for the frog, and the different body parts started to spin around. Then they got bigger and bigger. After a while, frog parts were spinning around all over the sky!
U: When I started working on the Allay, the first time I put the item in the wrong place, it looked like a hump. For a second there, it was so cute that I was considering keeping it.
KZ: What else is happening in Minecraft this year?
U: There are some really interesting announcements coming. As a huge fan, I would be flipping out this year.
