This clockwork classic originally hit Game Boy Advance in 2004, but is speeding to Switch in a revitalised remake! The set-up is simple. Donkey Kong has stolen a bunch of Mini Mario wind-up toys and Nintendo’s moustachioed mascot is hot on his heels to blag them back. Each level mixes puzzle solving and platforming, with switches that tweak the terrain, as well as ropes to climb, gymnastic bars to fling from and ledges that demand a deft backflip to reach. In some levels Mario is questing for a key to follow DK through the next door, in others he’s spied a toy for the taking. Compared to the pixel presentation of the original, Mario vs. Donkey Kong’s upgraded graphics look like a million bucks, but that’s not the most exciting change. Our number one new inclusion has to be local co-op! Nothing like puzzle solving with a pal!
DID YOU KNOW?
Mario and Donkey Kong’s rivalry is famous! It dates all the way back to prehistoric times… well, 1981… and the original Donkey Kong arcade game, when Mario was known simply as Jumpman. More recently (but still ages ago), the original release of Mario vs. Donkey Kong kicked off a whole series of puzzle games!
