If you’ve played The Origami King you already know how delightful this papercraft series is, but The Thousand-Year Door is easily the best of the bunch. Why? Because it’s an awesome action RPG that’s also quirky, creative and so hilarious you’ll be ROFL-ing regularly. In one chapter our portly plumber becomes a powerful pugilist, battling his way through a wrestling-style tournament! And in another bit, Bowser goes ballistic when someone else kidnaps Peach! It’s light and fun, and this playfulness is part and parcel of the papery premise too. Mario can turn sideways to squeeze through teensy gaps or fold himself into a paper plane to fly across a chasm! Battles even take place on a stage in front of an audience. You can appeal to them for more star power to juice up special moves! The game also boasts a bucket load of badges to collect, and these can give Mario’s crew all new moves and other potent perks!
GAME NINJA TIP
It can be easy to get stuck or lose track of what you need to do, but if you tap ZL one of your party members will point you in the right direction. Goombella is particularly great as she can also bring up bonus info about characters with a press of the X button.
