Behind The Scenes: Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order

Behind The Scenes: Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order

We use a Jedi mind trick on Game Director Stig Asmussen to shine the light (side) on some sweet Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order deets! Available On: PS4, Xbox One, PC

KZ: What is Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order?

S: This is a game about a Jedi. Or somebody who aspires to be a Jedi. Or may potentially become a Jedi.

KZ: Sounds menacingly phantom. How’d you pick what to show off first in a Star Wars game?

S: We just make sure we have enough stuff that gives us a moment that has Star Wars spectacle in it, but then also core gameplay like lightsaber combat.

KZ: So what makes for great Star Wars spectacle?

S: An AT-AT sequence! You get to see the inside of an AT-AT for the first time.

KZ: How’d you build the AT-AT guts?

S: We worked directly with the crew at Lucasfilm to come up with the design and something that is faithful to what we expect would be inside there.

KZ: What’s the biggest rule of playing in the Star Wars universe?

S: You’ve got to make sure it’s something that is conceivable with something that exists already. Or something that’s new and conceivable within a Star Wars world.

KZ: So, how easy is it to create a new type of stormtrooper?

S: It was easier to make the purge trooper because it was the first thing we got approved by Lucasfilm!

KZ: How long did that take?

S: That took us a year and a half to get that approved.

KZ: And that was “easier”?

S: Well, we just got [the hero] Cal Kestis approved in October 2018. But we had been working on him from day one. The Inquisitor was the second thing we got approved.

KZ: She wasn’t easier because of the Inquisitors in Rebels?

S: Well, the purge troopers were going to show up in a comic book and we needed to have the art done for that.

KZ: Ah, cool. So, what was the hardest thing to get approved?

S: The hardest thing to get approved is the Mantis: the spaceship.

KZ: It’s a sweet ship. We hope there’s a LEGO set for it.

S: So do I. Maybe someday there will be. Making a canon game, there’s potential it can show up in all these different formats.

KZ: What kind of Fallen Order toys would you wanna see?

S: You could potentially get a lightsaber hilt at some point. Or action figures and other toys of the character you’ve created. It would be really cool!
